Review of the year

March

  • Eimskip signed a sponsorship agreement with Landsbjörg, the Icelandic association for search, rescue and injury prevention, becoming one of the main sponsors of this important organization.
  • A joint venture between Eimskip and Ernst Russ AG acquires a second-hand vessel with a capacity of 1,025 TEUs. The vessel which was named Bakkafoss serves the Company’s North American route. 
  • New marketing campaign for Last Mile service launched in Iceland.
  • Eimskip's Annual and Sustainability Report was published in relation to the AGM which was held on March 9th.
  • Eimskip had strong presence at the Boston Seafood show and hosted an event where 200 customers attended.

April

  • Eimskip bought two new Volvo 18-pallet electric trucks and became one of the first companies in Iceland to use larger electric trucks in its services.
  • Sale of the ferry Baldur, which has been in service for Eimskip‘s subsidiary Sæferðir, finalized.
  • Eimskip participated in Barcelona Seafood show and hosted a successful event where 500 customers attended. 
  • An important milestone in Greenland when Eimskip acquired the port agency and forwarding activities of Royal Arctic Line in Greenland.

May

  • First phase of sailing system changes introduced where the goal was to increase efficiency and reliability of the sailing system as well as further improve customer service. With the changes Eimskip strengthened its coastal sailings in Iceland as well as connecting the Company‘s container sailing system in the North Atlantic and the reefer sailing system in Norway via Faroe Islands.
  • New sustainability targets set for the group. The Company published official targets for social and governmental matters for the first time and set the ambitious goal of reaching net-zero emissions before 2040.
  • The Company’s International Leadership Program ran in May and was well received, with 30 employees from 13 countries, 16 women and 14 men participating in the program. 

July

  • NOx emission reduction equipment installed in the Company’s reefer vessels fleet operating out of Norway, significantly reducing NOx pollution from the vessels. 

August

  • Eimskip’s newest and largest vessels Brúarfoss and Dettifoss went into dry docking. The lower half of the hull was painted with silicon painting to reduce resistance and decrease bunker consumption.

September

  • Eimskip Academy, a new learning platform for Eimskip’s employees launched.
  • Eimskip’s safety week with numerous activities and training for employees with a special focus on safety and prevention matters.
  • New automated Terminal Gate launched at Sundahöfn Iceland. 
  • The Board of Directors held their board meeting at the deck of Dettifoss sailing from Reyðarfjörður to the Faroe Islands. This is the first known board meeting in the Company that has been held at sea.
  • Sæferðir signed a contract with The Road and Coastal Administration in Iceland regarding continued ferry operation in Breiðafjörður Iceland. 

October

  • Eimskip participated in the Conxemar Seafood show in Vigo.

November

  • Second phase of sailing system changes introduced where Eimskip presented more environmentally friendly and more reliable sailing system. 
  • Eimskip’s Terminal operation in Rotterdam moved to Rotterdam Shortsea Terminals.

December

  • Changes were made in the executive management team when Böðvar Örn Kristinsson who served as EVP of Domestic Iceland was appointed Managing Director in Eimskip Netherlands.

January 2024

  • Eimskip celebrated its 110-year anniversary with an exhibition of the Company’s extensive art collection at its headquarters in Iceland. Over 700 people, both customers and general public in Iceland attended the exhibition.
  • Jónína Guðný Magnúsdóttir was appointed EVP of Domestic Iceland. For the first time, Eimskip has three women on the Executive Management team.
  • Frank Peeters was appointed Managing Director of Mareco, Eimskip’s subsidiary in Belgium.
